We have since learned that their highly addictive nature can have life-altering, or even life-ending, consequences. Our nation now grapples with staggering rates of opioid addiction and related fatalities, largely the result of prolific and often careless over-prescribing of these dangerous drugs by doctors and dentists, and fueled by aggressive, deceitful pharmaceutical companies.
On this MI Healthy Mind episode, The Opioid Epidemic: How It Snuck Up on Us, we hear about drug addiction from the perspective of Judge Linda Davis, who harbored a hardline, anti-drug stance until opioid addiction entered her own family, and David Clayton, a person in long-term recovery from opioid addiction.
Together, through Families Against Narcotics, Judge Davis and David Clayton are working to support those affected by opioid addiction. As Executive Director, Judge Davis is determined to stop the stigma surrounding addiction. As Regional Director/ Outreach Coordinator, David Clayton is using his own story of overcoming addiction to bring hope to those still suffering.
Hear their stories, their message and learn what resources are available to help end the epidemic.
