It would have been the easy – even obvious – choice for Crystal Ann Dussia to give up on herself after multiple failed attempts to break the cycle of addiction. Her life had been rife with hardships since the day she was born and few people around her had given her any real support or love. But, despite the odds stacked against her, Crystal has learned to love herself and used that love as motivation to live her best life.
“Addiction was an undertone of every aspect of my life and I despised it.” Crystal explains the pain of suffering from her family’s addictions as well as her own. For years she was caught in the cycle of addiction that was all too prevalent around her. Even once she decided to get sober it took seven difficult attempts. Yet, she was determined to fulfill her potential.
“Drugs quit working. Alcohol quit working. They no longer numbed the pain.” Crystal discovered that the drugs that had initially helped her deal with her problems had become the source of new problems. It was the realization that she needed to finally overcome her substance abuse.
“I had an opportunity at something better and I wasn’t living up to my potential.”
Today Ms. Dussia is sober, healthy, and happy. She has overcome extreme obstacles and is now focused on spreading a message of hope.
You. Are. Worth. It. As Crystal can attest, self-worth is more than just a catchphrase; it’s a critical component to our quality of life, our mental health, and our overall well-being.
