That’s why they need adults on their side to advocate for them and protect them. A Children’s Advocate Center, or CAC, like Kids TALK, plays a critical role in helping children recover from their trauma.
“He wouldn’t let us leave.” For Genavieve Kowalski abuse was normal. She had grown up with a father who physically hurt and even threatened to kill her. But, finally, at age 16 she was able to see his actions for what they truly were.
Now, as a driven and focused young person studying to be a domestic violence lawyer, she credits the support of her therapist and “village” at Kids TALK for giving her the resources and support she needed to heal.
“We walk alongside our children and our families to ensure that they not only survive the trauma but thrive.” Chavela Bryant, MA LPC, therapist for Kids TALK, recognizes the immense stress that child abuse causes its victims, and the need for compassion and understanding to help these young people overcome their unfair and difficult start to life.
